Easton, Massachusetts – This past month the Easton YMCA was thrilled to recognize Chris Mills and Shovel Town Flag Company with the 2022 Community Service Award for incredible devotion, commitment, and service provided to the Easton community!

As a business owner of Chris Mills Construction, owner and craftsman of Shovel Town Flag Company, a local member of the Board of Health, a Paramedic, a Firefighter, and an active member of the Easton’s YMCA’s Board of Governors (just to name a few), Chris has been a crucial part of Old Colony YMCA’s Annual Campaign and Spinathon, raising thousands of dollars every year to support the families and children the Y serves.

When asked why he chooses to support the Y and volunteer on the board, Mills expressed that the Y is “more than a gym and pool,” and noted the tremendous impact the Y continues to have on many members of the community is truly amazing.

Shovel Town Company, named after the town of Easton, has become a local treasure for an amazing cause. One of a kind customizable Wooden flags are donated monthly - and even daily during the Month of November - to honor veterans and thank them for their service.

“Chris Mills has served the community of Easton for over 20 years in many roles and capacities, while actively seeking out veterans, often times without them knowing, to gift them beautiful handmade flags from reclaimed wood. The impact this has had on veterans is remarkable,” said Marc Lamb, Easton’s Selectman.

His support of many organizations and people that are closest to his heart, including the Y, are what makes the Easton community so significant for Mills.

“Chris is an inspiring individual with a big heart - someone who puts others’ needs before his own. The Easton Y is so excited to acknowledge Chris and Shovel Town Flag Company’s  impact in our community, and are so grateful to have him as a member of our Board of Governors!” said Darcy Paiva, Executive Director of Easton’s YMCA.
