Old Colony YMCA Unveils a $2.3 Million Building Renovation of the Newly Renamed Vincent and Nancy Marturano Youth YMCA

To recognize Vinnie Marturano’s 30 years of service and his wife Nancy’s ongoing volunteerism and community leadership, Old Colony Y’s Board of Directors voted to rename the building the Vincent and Nancy Marturano Youth YMCA. A crowd of nearly 100 gathered to watch the unveiling and celebrate the completion of the project.

Brockton, Massachusetts – Old Colony YMCA, a nonprofit charitable organization, renamed a newly renovated child care building in downtown Brockton after their President and CEO Vincent Marturano and his wife Nancy. The “Vincent and Nancy Marturano Youth YMCA” honors their 30 years of commitment and service to the children and families of the community.

“He changed the definition of what a YMCA could be, and now others across the country are following his lead,” explained Eli Florence, Chair of the Board of Directors at Old Colony YMCA.

The $2.3 million project enhanced the sustainability and licensed capacity of the facility, which is now able to serve 192 youth of the community. With three brand new classrooms, two larger locker rooms, more bathroom spaces, and many more improvements, the building will now serve the City of Brockton as a youth center, a swim and water safety facility, a social service site, and a child care and school age hub.

“Our Y has been helping children and families for more than 135 years, and it never mattered where, when, or how. If there were people in need, we would be there to meet them” said Vincent Marturano, President and CEO.

The project was the result of an initial $1,000,000 grant from the Early Education and Out of School Time Capital Fund, a program of the Children’s Investment Fund. From there, private donations and grants were used to make up the difference.

“This project, on its face, is all about child care, and providing a safe, educational space for kids to go after school” said Florence.

Acting Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, Amy Kershaw, was on hand to deliver the keynote address. She expressed appreciation for the Y’s efforts to provide emergency child care during the pandemic, as well as the project’s commitment to serving downtown Brockton.

Old Colony YMCA is extremely thankful for the HarborOne Foundation, Rockland Trust, The Amelia Peabody Foundation, George Alden Trust, and Eastern Bank for their tremendous support and generosity to make this project a reality.
